Jaipur. Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma praised athletes Arundhati Chaudhary, Yashveer Singh, Rahul Sharma, Mona Agarwal, and Sandhya Vishnoi as sources of inspiration for the youth. He acknowledged the dedication and sacrifices of their coaches, families, and supporters that laid the groundwork for their achievements.
During an event at the Constitution Club of Rajasthan honoring medalists from the 2026 Commonwealth Games, the Chief Minister highlighted Arundhati Chaudhary's historic gold medal win in boxing. He noted Yashveer Singh's bronze medal in javelin throw as a testament to the power of talent.
He also commended Rahul Sharma for winning gold in the Shooting Para World Cup, Mona Agarwal for her bronze medal, and Sandhya Vishnoi for securing silver at the Under-17 World Wrestling Championship. These athletes have showcased their skills and determination, proudly representing India on the global stage and enhancing Rajasthan's reputation.
Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country is advancing in sports with confidence. The Chief Minister emphasized that sports are not merely competitions but vital for nation-building. India is sending a message to the world that it is progressing not only economically but also in sports, science, and technology.
He mentioned that the 'Khelo India' initiative is creating a robust sports environment, identifying talent from villages, and establishing systems to elevate them to international platforms. The central government is investing ₹36,000 crores in 'Khelo India' to provide athletes with high-level training, equipment, medical facilities, and financial support.
The Chief Minister announced the establishment of Maharana Pratap Sports University in Jaipur, with an investment of approximately ₹101 crores, aimed at elevating sports in the state. To date, ₹52 crores has been allocated to support 3,540 athletes.
He noted that priority is being given to athletes who have excelled nationally and internationally in government jobs, with 186 appointments made so far. The successful hosting of the Khelo India University Games 2025, which saw participation from around 7,000 athletes from 222 universities across seven cities, was also highlighted. Rajasthan secured third place in the medal tally with 60 medals.
The Chief Minister introduced the Sports Life Insurance Scheme for athletes, emphasizing the government's commitment to their safety. Approximately ₹18 crores have been spent on purchasing sports equipment, and 50 Khelo India centers have been established to provide regular training, sports materials, and coaching.
A Center of Excellence for athletics, archery, and boxing is being set up at SMS Stadium. The Rajasthan Youth Policy 2026 aims to create new opportunities in education, skills, sports, and leadership development for the youth. The 'One District, One Sport' initiative promotes a specific sport in each district, while the Rajasthan Target Olympic Podium Scheme aims to enhance performance in the Olympics.
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that these efforts will position Rajasthan as a leading state in the international sports arena in the coming years, with athletes proudly waving the Indian flag at the Olympics, Asian Games, and global competitions.
Before the event, the Chief Minister interacted with medalists Arundhati Chaudhary, Yashveer Singh, Rahul Sharma, Mona Agarwal, and Sandhya Vishnoi about their preparations and experiences. He presented certificates and monetary rewards to the medalists, including a ₹1 crore check to Arundhati Chaudhary and ₹30 lakhs to Yashveer Singh.
Sports Minister Colonel Rajyavardhan Rathore emphasized that hard work and discipline can help an athlete surpass even more talented competitors, acknowledging the crucial role of families, coaches, and sports associations in an athlete's success. He noted that under Prime Minister Modi's leadership, initiatives like Khelo India Games have been launched to discover and nurture international-level athletes.
Present at the event were Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jogaram Patel, Youth Affairs and Sports State Minister K.K. Vishnoi, Additional Chief Secretary of the Youth Affairs and Sports Department Praveen Gupta, along with Commonwealth Games 2026 medalists, coaches, families, and numerous young athletes.
