Rajasthan Boosts Rooftop Solar Energy with Increased Tariffs
Enhanced Tariffs for Solar Energy Consumers
In a significant move to promote solar energy production in Rajasthan, the state government has announced an increase in payments for residential rooftop solar users. Consumers generating electricity from solar panels installed on their rooftops will now receive ₹3.26 per unit instead of the previous rate of ₹2.71, resulting in an additional ₹0.55 per unit.
Implementation of New Rates
Following the Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission's decision, the three distribution companies in the state—Jaipur, Ajmer, and Jodhpur Discoms—have issued orders to implement these new rates. The revised tariffs will take effect from the current billing cycle, benefiting consumers and encouraging the use of solar energy.
Growing Adoption of Solar Energy
Currently, over 135,000 consumers in Rajasthan have installed rooftop solar systems under the net metering scheme. The increase in rates is expected to attract more users towards solar energy, allowing them to save on electricity bills.
Support Under Surya Ghar Scheme
Notably, under the Prime Minister's Surya Ghar scheme, 96,685 consumers in Rajasthan have set up solar systems. This initiative provides financial assistance of up to ₹78,000 for installing solar panels of up to 3 kilowatts.
Environmental Impact
The growing capacity for solar energy in Rajasthan not only represents a step towards green energy but also signifies a crucial initiative for environmental conservation and self-reliant energy production.
