Rain Forces Abandonment of KKR vs PBKS Match at Eden Gardens

Match Abandoned Due to Heavy Rain

The eagerly awaited match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the historic Eden Gardens was canceled due to persistent rain on Monday. The game was officially called off at 10:58 PM IST, resulting in both teams earning a point each.

KKR's Struggles Before Rain

The match commenced with KKR's captain Ajinkya Rahane winning the toss and opting to bat first, aiming to secure their initial points after suffering defeats in their previous two games. However, the PBKS bowling attack, spearheaded by the impressive Xavier Bartlett, quickly put KKR in a difficult position. Kolkata's high-profile overseas player Cameron Green was dismissed for just 4 runs, followed by explosive opener Finn Allen, who scored only 6 runs, leaving KKR struggling at 16/2 within the first two overs. Angkrish Raghuvanshi (7*) partnered with Rahane (8*) to bring the score to 25/2 after 3.4 overs before the rain began.

Heavy Downpour Halts the Game

The light rain soon escalated into a heavy downpour. Although the rain ceased around 10:30 PM, the ground staff worked diligently to prepare the field for a potential five-over match. Unfortunately, the waterlogged pitch made it impossible to continue, leading both captains to agree to abandon the match at 10:58 PM.

IPL 2026 Points Table Update

Despite sharing points, PBKS now leads the IPL 2026 points table with five points from three matches. In contrast, KKR finds themselves in eighth place with just one point from three games. KKR will aim for their first victory in the IPL on Thursday against Lucknow Super Giants, while Punjab Kings will return home to Mullanpur to face Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 11.
