Railways Launches 84 Special Trains Amid IndiGo Flight Cancellations
Railway Response to Travel Disruptions
New Delhi: In response to widespread travel disruptions caused by IndiGo's mass flight cancellations, the Railways has announced the operation of 84 special trains across various zones this Saturday.
The Railway Ministry coordinated this initiative, arranging for these trains to complete 104 trips after assessing train traffic in major cities including New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Patna, and Howrah.
Dilip Kumar, Executive Director of Information & Publicity at the Railway Board, stated, "The number of special trains and their trips may increase further based on traffic conditions. All zones have been instructed to utilize all available resources, including rolling stock and manpower, to ensure the safe operation of these trains for the convenience of the thousands of passengers stranded due to flight cancellations."
Officials are actively working to inform the public about these special trains, with some divisions even sharing details at nearby airports to assist travelers.
The South Eastern Railway has issued a press release and notified the Airport Authority to display information about the newly launched special train services.
According to a press note, the Western Railway will operate seven special trains at a special fare between various routes including Mumbai Central-New Delhi and Bandra Terminus-Durgapura.
Additionally, the South Central Railway has announced four special trains to accommodate the influx of passengers due to the extensive IndiGo flight cancellations.
Central Railway and Northern Railway have planned to run 14 and 10 special trains respectively, with officials continuously reviewing these numbers to address any increasing demands.
Other railway zones have also released notifications regarding their special train schedules.
IndiGo has faced significant operational disruptions for five consecutive days, leading to numerous cancellations and delays, which have caused considerable inconvenience for thousands of passengers, including issues with lost baggage.
