Railways Approves Survey for Doubling Key Northeast Corridor
Survey Sanctioned for Railway Expansion
Guwahati, Dec 5: The Railway Ministry has granted approval for a Final Location Survey aimed at doubling the railway line along the New Coochbehar-Golakganj-Gauripur-Abhayapuri route, which spans 152.31 kilometers and is projected to cost approximately Rs 3,65,54,400.
According to a railway spokesperson, this initiative is a significant advancement in enhancing railway infrastructure and increasing line capacity in this crucial corridor. The New Coochbehar-Golakganj-Gauripur-Abhayapuri section serves as a key route for the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) and offers substantial advantages to residents of Lower Assam. With a surge in passenger traffic and a steady rise in freight movement in the area, boosting rail line capacity has become essential. The approved survey will evaluate these requirements and facilitate effective planning for the upcoming doubling project.
The initiative is anticipated to enhance railway capacity, streamline train operations, bolster local supply chains, and foster economic development in the region.
The Final Location Survey will involve a thorough analysis of geographical features, including bridges, tunnels, soil conditions, and other engineering considerations.
Following this assessment, a detailed report will be compiled and presented to the Railway Ministry for further evaluation and approval.
This survey is a crucial preparatory step for the intended doubling project, which aims to facilitate quicker and more efficient movement of both passenger and freight trains. The NFR is committed to conducting such surveys and studies to fortify railway infrastructure, implement progressive initiatives, and improve the safety, efficiency, and overall quality of rail services for the public.
