Raijor Dal Announces Candidate List

Guwahati, March 4: Following the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee's (APCC) release of its first candidate list for the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections, Raijor Dal has also made its move by unveiling its initial list of candidates.

During a press conference in Guwahati, Bhasko D. Saikia, the executive president of Raijor Dal, presented the names of 11 candidates after discussions within the party's election committee.

Among the candidates, Abdur Rashid Mandal will represent East Goalpara, while Romen Chandra Borthakur is set to contest from Jalukbari.

Other nominees include Anjan Talukdar for Manas, Azizur Rahman from Dalgaon, Mehboob Mukhtar from Dhing, and Alok Nath from Tezpur.

Additionally, Dulal Chandra Baruah will run from Sissiborgaon, Rahul Chetry from Margherita, Lakhyajyoti Gogoi from Digboi, Dr. Gyanashree Bora from Mariyani, and Ratan Daw from Bokakhat.

Notably, Abdur Rashid Mondal recently joined Raijor Dal after leaving Congress, where he felt marginalized.

Dr. Gyanashree Bora, another significant candidate, has transitioned from her role as an Assistant Professor at Goalpara College to join Raijor Dal.

Earlier, Akhil Gogoi, the party president, confirmed that this is just the first phase of candidate announcements, with more names expected soon.

“Today marks the announcement of the first phase of our candidate list. This is not the final compilation, and additional names will be revealed later,” Gogoi stated.

He also mentioned that the party aims to field approximately 12 to 15 candidates, contingent on the election committee's decisions.

When questioned about the Congress's early candidate announcement before finalizing seat-sharing with Raijor Dal, Gogoi refrained from commenting.

On Tuesday, the APCC had disclosed its first list of 42 candidates for the 2026 elections.

The simultaneous announcements from both parties occur amidst ongoing talks about a potential broader opposition coalition in Assam.

With this initial candidate list, Raijor Dal has officially commenced its electoral strategy for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, with party leaders hinting at further announcements in the near future.
