Cancellation of Rahul Gandhi's Event in Prayagraj
Prayagraj, August 8 - The KP Trust has canceled the permission for Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's scheduled event titled 'Students' Echo' at KP Ground on August 8. In response, Ajay Rai, the state Congress president, stated that the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha will still visit Prayagraj to engage with students. Speaking to reporters in the evening, Rai emphasized, 'This is the land of martyrs and competitive students who have always sought their future here. Rahul will come on August 8 to interact with the children.'
He further urged the government and administration to provide an alternative venue, expressing the desire for Rahul Gandhi to connect with the students. Rai pointed out that the receipt for the event indicates that the KP Ground is primarily used for sports activities. He criticized the government, claiming, 'The government is afraid of Rahul Gandhi.'
Rai remarked, 'Just as the Prime Minister is avoiding Parliament due to fear of Rahul Gandhi, it is evident that this government is intimidated.' He compared the cancellation of this event to similar incidents in Kota, Rajasthan, and Dehradun, asserting that Rahul Gandhi will definitely engage with students here.
Earlier, Jitendra Nath Chaudhary, the acting president of KP Trust, informed a news agency that the Allahabad High Court had issued an order on August 14, 2025, prohibiting the use of KP College grounds for any activities other than sports and educational purposes. He added that the ground is currently filled with rainwater, making the event potentially hazardous. Additionally, the Congress party was granted permission on the condition that they obtain approval from the district magistrate, which has not yet been received.
Chaudhary explained that these factors led to the cancellation of the Congress event scheduled for August 8. Notably, Rahul Gandhi's program titled 'Students' Echo' aims to address issues such as paper leaks and other student concerns. Ajay Rai visited Prayagraj on Wednesday to assess the preparations for the event and prayed for its success at the reclining Hanuman temple.
