Rahul Gandhi's Strong Warning to the Election Commission

On Thursday, Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha and a prominent Congress figure, issued a stern warning to the Election Commission regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign in Bihar. He emphasized that the opposition will not allow any escape for the commission, stating, “I want to send a message to the Election Commission: If you think you can evade accountability, you are mistaken. You will not get away, as we will pursue you relentlessly.”

Allegations of Fraud in Voter List Revision

Following the adjournment of Lok Sabha proceedings, Rahul Gandhi addressed reporters outside Parliament. He accused the Election Commission of India (ECI) of committing "fraud" during the voter list revision process in a Karnataka constituency. Gandhi claimed to possess 100% evidence of alleged manipulation, which included adding and removing voters' names, although he has yet to present any proof.

Concerns Over New Voter Registrations

He alleged that thousands of new voters aged 50, 60, and 65 have been added to the list in the same constituency, while eligible voters over 18 years old have been removed. “We have 100% evidence that the Election Commission allowed fraud in Karnataka for one seat. When we decide to show it to you, it will be undeniable evidence. We examined just one constituency and discovered this. I am confident that this is the same scenario across various constituencies, with thousands of new votes from individuals aged 50 or older, while younger eligible voters are being removed,” he stated.

Call for Withdrawal of SIR Process

CPI General Secretary D. Raja commented that the SIR process in Bihar has created significant challenges for the common people, including the poor, Dalits, tribals, and migrant workers. He called for the withdrawal of the SIR process, suggesting that the Election Commission should conduct elections based on the 2024 voter lists. He insisted that the commission must remain neutral towards all political parties, adding that they are actively protesting in Bihar and are also petitioners in the Supreme Court challenging the SIR process.
