Rahul Gandhi's Participation in Kanshi Ram's Birth Anniversary Event

On Friday, Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha and a Congress MP, will participate in a 'Constitution Conference' in Lucknow, commemorating the birth anniversary of Kanshi Ram, the founder of the Bahujan Samaj Party. In a conversation with a news outlet, Congress MP Tanuj Punia remarked that Rahul Gandhi is following the path laid out by Kanshi Ram, who was a significant leader for the Dalit community. He emphasized that Kanshi Ram advanced Babasaheb's mission and worked tirelessly to secure justice for Dalits and marginalized groups.

Significance of Kanshi Ram's Legacy

Punia further stated that Rahul Gandhi is aligned with the ideals of Kanshi Ram, consistently voicing the concerns of those often overlooked. His visit to Lucknow for the celebration will convey that Kanshi Ram was not merely a leader of one party but a leader for the entire Bahujan community. As the 2024 general elections approach, the Congress party is expected to focus on issues related to the Constitution and caste surveys.

Kanshi Ram's Impact and Legacy

Kanshi Ram, a staunch advocate for caste equality, was born on March 15, 1934. Under his leadership, the BSP emerged as a prominent organization representing the Bahujan society in Uttar Pradesh, which includes Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, and various minority communities. He passed away on October 9, 2006. Both the BSP and BJP are anticipated to organize grand events in honor of Kanshi Ram's birth anniversary.

Previous Commemorations and Political Context

Last year, during the observance of Kanshi Ram's death anniversary, BSP chief Mayawati criticized the Samajwadi Party while expressing gratitude towards the current BJP-led government for maintaining transparency in managing funds collected at the Kanshi Ram memorial. Speaking at the memorial on the occasion of the BSP founder's death anniversary, Mayawati praised the BJP government for not suppressing the revenue collected from visitors, unlike the previous Samajwadi Party government.
