Rahul Gandhi Sparks Controversy with Claims on Indian Army Control

Controversial Remarks by Rahul Gandhi

During an election rally in Kutumba, Bihar, on Tuesday, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi stirred controversy by asserting that the Indian Army is under the control of just 10% of the population. This statement was made in the context of higher castes. Addressing the gathering, Gandhi pointed out that if one looks closely, 90% of the country's population comprises Dalits, Mahadalits, backward classes, extremely backward classes, or minority communities. He emphasized that these groups represent the most marginalized and tribal sections of society.

Economic Disparities Highlighted

Gandhi further stated that a review of India's top 500 companies would reveal no representation from backward or Dalit communities, as all individuals in these firms belong to the top 10%. He claimed that job opportunities are predominantly accessible to this elite group, which also exerts control over the armed forces. He expressed a vision for India where the 90% of the population has a place, allowing people to live with dignity and happiness. He reiterated that the Congress party has consistently fought for the rights of the underprivileged.

Reactions from Political Opponents

In response to Gandhi's comments, BJP leader Suresh Nakhu criticized him, stating, "Rahul Gandhi is now searching for a caste within the armed forces, claiming that 10% control it. In his hatred for Prime Minister Modi, he has crossed the line of disdain for India." This is not the first time Gandhi has made controversial remarks regarding the military. In August, during his Bharat Jodo Yatra, he faced backlash for stating that "Chinese soldiers are beating Indian soldiers in Arunachal Pradesh," which drew criticism from the Supreme Court.

Legal Challenges and Allegations

Gandhi had previously claimed that the Chinese army had occupied 2,000 square kilometers of Indian territory and was assaulting Indian soldiers in Arunachal Pradesh. Following these statements, a retired defense officer from Lucknow filed a defamation lawsuit, alleging that Gandhi's comments disrespected the Indian Army and tarnished its image. The Allahabad High Court had previously refused to dismiss the complaint, leading Gandhi to appeal to the Supreme Court.
