Rahul Gandhi Criticizes New Employment Legislation

New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, has launched a fierce critique against the BJP-led NDA government regarding the recently introduced VB-G RAM G Act. He accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of executing a severe blow to both the states and the impoverished, drawing parallels to the impact of demonetisation.

During a press briefing, Gandhi asserted that the Congress party would oppose the government's initiatives and expressed optimism that the entire opposition would unite in this effort.

He stated, "The Prime Minister has single-handedly dismantled MGNREGA without consulting his Cabinet or thoroughly examining the implications."

Gandhi emphasized, "We will resist this move. I am confident that the entire opposition will stand with us," referring to the Congress's upcoming nationwide campaign, 'MGNREGA Bachao Abhiyan,' set to launch on January 5.

He argued that the MGNREGA, established during the UPA era, was not merely a work scheme but a globally recognized development framework. Its repeal, he claimed, represents an assault on the rights-based approach and undermines the federal structure of the nation.

Gandhi reiterated, "This is a catastrophic strike against the states and the underprivileged, executed by the Prime Minister alone, akin to demonetisation. He has obliterated MGNREGA without consulting his Cabinet or conducting a proper study."

The VB-G RAM G Bill, which replaces the two-decade-old MGNREGA, was passed in Parliament during the recent Winter Session amidst loud protests from the opposition. The new legislation provides for 125 days of wage employment for rural laborers.
