Rahul Gandhi's Call for Support in Kerala

New Delhi, August 2 - Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expressed his concern on Sunday regarding the devastation caused by heavy rainfall in Kerala. He stated that the state government is making every effort to assist affected families and coordinate relief and rescue operations. Gandhi urged Congress workers and volunteers to contribute to these efforts. In a post on the social media platform 'X', he expressed, 'I am deeply saddened by the destruction caused by the heavy rains in Kerala.'

He extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the eight individuals who lost their lives and hoped for the safe return of those still missing, wishing a speedy recovery for the injured. Gandhi emphasized, 'The state government is doing everything possible to aid affected families and coordinate relief and rescue efforts. I appeal to all Congress workers and volunteers to provide their utmost support in these endeavors.'

Furthermore, he advised everyone to remain vigilant, especially in hilly areas, and to adhere to the directives issued by the authorities. He noted that during this challenging time, the entire state of Kerala stands united.

Gandhi affirmed, 'I stand firmly with every affected family.' Kerala's Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan reported that the heavy rainfall from the previous day resulted in landslides, flooding, and damage to property across various regions of the state. He confirmed that eight individuals have died, with eight others reported missing, and that 13 people have sustained injuries due to rain-related incidents.

A statement from the Chief Minister's office indicated that 27 homes have been completely destroyed, while 196 have suffered partial damage, leading to the relocation of 5,792 individuals to 209 relief camps established across the state. The Chief Minister assured that the government would provide all possible assistance to the families of the deceased and those who have lost their homes and livelihoods. He also urged the public, particularly in hilly regions, to remain cautious despite the reduction in rainfall.

He added that elected representatives and volunteers are actively engaged in relief efforts.
