Rahul Gandhi Demands Accountability from Amit Shah Over Student Protests

Congress Leader Calls for Clarity on Pellet Gun Orders

New Delhi: On Monday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticized the Union Home Minister Amit Shah, stating that the public is uninterested in his speeches regarding general topics in Parliament. He emphasized the need for Shah to clarify who authorized the use of pellet guns against protesting students.

During a press conference at the Indira Bhawan headquarters, Gandhi, who serves as the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, pointed out that both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Shah have avoided addressing the House for over two weeks, lacking the courage to take responsibility for their actions.

Gandhi remarked, "Students should recognize that neither the home minister nor the prime minister considers the treatment of protesters in Delhi worthy of comment."

He stressed that the real issue is not whether Shah can deliver speeches on general matters but rather who gave the order for the shooting of students in Delhi. He insisted that Shah must clarify whether he was responsible for the orders.

If Shah did issue the orders, he is accountable; if he was unaware, it indicates incompetence, Gandhi stated, asserting that either way, Shah should resign.

Furthermore, Gandhi called for an apology from the prime minister regarding the police's actions against students during the protests at Janta Mantar.

He also raised concerns about the alleged theft of donations at the Ram temple, stating that for over 15 days, neither the prime minister nor the home minister has shown the courage to address these issues in the House.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge echoed Gandhi's sentiments, expressing the opposition's desire for discussions on these matters, including the paper leak issue. He noted that the government had remained silent for 14-15 days, indicating a reluctance to engage in dialogue.

Kharge added, "We repeatedly urged them, but Shah did not respond. We also demanded that PM Modi address the theft of Ram temple donations, which occurred under the trustees he appointed. We seek accountability and a statement from the PM, but the government has ignored our requests."

He concluded by stating that PM Modi should apologize, as many people have faith in the Ram temple, and such a significant incident occurred without any acknowledgment from him. Kharge affirmed that these three issues are non-negotiable, and the government must respond.
