New Delhi, August 4 - Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi took aim at Prime Minister Modi on Tuesday regarding his comments about 'forgiving misled youth.' He questioned who granted the Prime Minister the authority to forgive 'the future of India.' Speaking at the launch of MDMK leader Vaiko's book 'Vaiko in Parliament,' Gandhi accused Modi and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) of undermining India's diverse languages, cultures, and history. He stated that students are taking to the streets to defend the 'Idea of India' against this ideology.
Gandhi pointed out that the nation is currently witnessing a wave of student protests demanding employment opportunities, fair examinations, and an improved education system. He remarked that while students are actively protesting, the Prime Minister is talking about forgiveness. He posed the question, 'Who has given him the right to forgive students? Where does he derive the authority to forgive the future of India?'
The Congress leader emphasized that the Prime Minister should be the one seeking forgiveness from the students. He referenced Vaiko's political struggles, asserting that every state in India has the right to live with dignity, honoring its own culture and history. Gandhi criticized certain individuals for disregarding the significance of various Indian languages, such as Tamil, Marathi, Bengali, and Malayalam, while only recognizing the history defined by the RSS as relevant.
According to him, the ideology behind Modi, his associates, and the RSS is 'dangerous and divisive.' He argued that this mindset diminishes the importance of India's diverse identities, languages, and history, which India will never accept. Gandhi concluded by stating that students are protesting for this very reason, defending their rich cultural heritage, languages, and history. He asserted that the RSS cannot alter India's history, and the nation will never allow its history to be trampled by anyone.
