Rahul Gandhi Critiques Ideological Attack on Indian Higher Education
Concerns Over Ideological Influence in Education
On Thursday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expressed his concerns regarding an ideological assault on higher education in India, asserting that a specific ideology is being imposed. He shared these views during a discussion with students at Marian College in Kuttikkanam, Kerala. Gandhi pointed out that many vice-chancellors are appointed due to their affiliations with the RSS, emphasizing the need to halt this trend. He argued that the Indian education system should not be confined to the divisive perspectives of the RSS.
AI and India's Global Standing
During the conversation, Gandhi remarked, "There are only two major players in the AI sector: the United States and China. Unfortunately, India is not a significant player in robotics, AI, or any modern technology, especially when compared to the US or China." He referenced an incident at an AI summit where a Chinese robot was showcased as an Indian creation, highlighting the need for India to maintain control over its data. He criticized a recent agreement made by the Prime Minister that he claims has resulted in India relinquishing its data to the US, stating that this has severely impacted India's potential in AI. He expressed concern that jobs in the service and software sectors, which are vital to the economy, may be lost due to AI advancements.
Rising Concerns Over AI Utilization
Gandhi's comments regarding the Chinese robot were made in the context of a controversy surrounding an event at Galgotias University, where a Chinese robotic dog was presented as an Indian innovation. This incident sparked significant debate. Additionally, the increasing use of AI globally, particularly amid widespread layoffs in major companies, has raised alarms. Gandhi also criticized the recent India-US trade agreement under Prime Minister Modi's government, which the opposition claims is detrimental to farmers.
