Opposition Leader's Allegations in Kerala
On Tuesday, Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of wanting the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) to win in the upcoming Kerala assembly elections. Speaking at a rally in Kannur, he asserted that the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) is battling against the combined forces of the LDF and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Present at the event were two former CPI(M) leaders, V. Kunhikrishnan and T.K. Govindan, who are contesting as independent candidates with UDF support.

Gandhi characterized the election as a battle of ideologies, accusing the left and the BJP of forming an unusual alliance. He stated that this election represents a conflict between two ideologies: one led by the CPI(M) and the other by the UDF. He noted that for the first time, a partnership between the BJP and the left front is evident, which he finds astonishing given their fundamentally opposing beliefs.
He posed a rhetorical question about how a leftist party could ally with a right-wing party, likening it to a puzzle. Gandhi pointed out that the answers to this puzzle are present on stage, referring to the two prominent CPI(M) leaders in attendance. He questioned why they were not campaigning for the CPI(M) and the Chief Minister instead. Gandhi accused the current left front of no longer being leftist or centrist, claiming they are now corporate entities rather than parties for the people. He emphasized that leftist ideologies are aligned with Congress, which is supporting them.

Questioning the BJP's stance in Kerala, Gandhi remarked that while the Prime Minister frequently discusses religion and temples elsewhere, he avoids addressing the issue of gold theft at Sabarimala in Kerala. The Congress leader alleged that leaders from the CPI(M) were involved in the Sabarimala gold theft and accused the BJP of remaining silent on the matter. He claimed that the BJP, which positions itself as a protector of Hindu interests, is not raising this issue in Kerala because it wishes to keep the LDF in power.
