Rahul Gandhi Questions Government's Actions

In a recent session of the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition, criticized the Narendra Modi administration for allegedly informing Pakistan about targeting terrorist infrastructure under Operation Sindoor. He labeled this act as a serious offense and demanded to know who authorized such a decision. Gandhi specifically took issue with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar's admission that the government had communicated with Pakistan regarding this operation. He raised concerns about the consequences of sharing such information, questioning how many aircraft the Indian Air Force lost as a result.

In a post on X, the MP from Raebareli stated, "Notifying Pakistan at the onset of our attack was a crime. The External Affairs Minister has publicly acknowledged that the Indian government did this. Who gave the authorization? How many aircraft did we lose?" He also shared an undated video of the minister, who allegedly stated that India had informed Pakistan about actions against terrorist infrastructure on its territory.

The video shared by Gandhi features S. Jaishankar asserting that the government sent a message to Pakistan clarifying that the strikes were aimed solely at terrorist structures and not the military. In the clip, the minister is heard saying, "At the start of the operation, we communicated to Pakistan that we were targeting terrorist infrastructure, not their military. Therefore, their military had the option to refrain from intervening in this process, which they chose not to heed."

However, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) has dismissed claims that Jaishankar stated India informed Pakistan prior to Operation Sindoor. The PIB's fact-checking unit clarified that the minister did not make such a statement and that his comments were misrepresented. Operation Sindoor was an aggressive campaign by India against terrorist camps in Pakistan's Punjab province and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK) following a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22.
