Rahul Gandhi Champions Social Justice: Congress's Bold New Resolutions
Congress's Commitment to Social Justice
New Delhi: Emphasizing the Congress party's dedication to social justice, Rahul Gandhi stated on Thursday that the party's message to the Bahujan community is unequivocal: they should rally behind the Congress on matters concerning their future and bolster its efforts.
These comments followed the Congress's reaffirmation of its pledge to establish a central law for the SC/ST sub-plan, ensuring budget allocations that reflect their population size.
The party also highlighted the urgent need to implement the constitutional guarantee under Article 15(5), which was introduced by Congress on January 20, 2006, to provide reservations for OBCs, SCs, and STs in private educational institutions.
According to the Congress, the foundation of social justice enshrined in the Constitution can only be reinforced through a nationwide caste census.
These declarations were made during the 'Nyaypath' resolution adopted at the AICC session held along the Sabarmati river.
In a Hindi post on X, Gandhi remarked, "During the AICC session 'Nyaypath' yesterday, Congress passed three significant resolutions aimed at enhancing social justice by ensuring a share for the Bahujans of our nation.
"We will introduce a national law to eliminate the 50% cap on reservations. We will legally formalize the SC/ST Sub Plan through a central law and allocate budget shares to these communities based on their population. We will also enforce the right to reservation in private educational institutions for SC, ST, and OBC as outlined in Article 15(5) of the Constitution," he stated.
"Our message to the Bahujans is straightforward—support us on these critical issues for your future and strengthen our efforts... because, 'haath badlega haalat,'" Gandhi added, referencing the Congress's election symbol of a hand.
The session, themed "Nyaypath: Sankalp, Samarpan aur Sangharsh," saw participation from Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, former leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, along with general secretaries K C Venugopal and Jairam Ramesh, among other senior figures.
Following extensive discussions, the resolution was adopted through a show of hands.
The Congress dedicated a portion of the resolution to social justice, asserting that it constitutes the party's "ideological core."
