Rahul Gandhi Challenges PM Modi: A Clash of Truth and Lies in Parliament

A Heated Exchange in Parliament

New Delhi: In a recent session of the Rajya Sabha, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, suggesting that the PM was so fearful of the truth that he resorted to falsehoods.

Gandhi, who serves as the opposition leader in the Lok Sabha, questioned the Prime Minister's apparent panic in response to a few inquiries.

In a post on X, he stated, "Modi ji was so afraid of the truth, he took refuge in lies. However, he acted according to his own judgment."

On Wednesday, Gandhi referenced the unreleased memoir of former Army chief M M Naravane, alleging that PM Modi shifted blame during the 2020 India-China conflict.

He mentioned that he had been advised against quoting from this memoir in the Lok Sabha, emphasizing the PM's statement: 'jo uchit samjho woh karo' (do what you feel is right).

Gandhi's comments followed Modi's accusations that the Congress party had disrespected the President of India by causing disruptions during the Lok Sabha debate on her address.

The Prime Minister also claimed that the opposition party had insulted marginalized communities, including tribals, Dalits, and individuals from the northeast.

During the Motion of Thanks debate in the Rajya Sabha, Modi accused Congress of undermining the Constitution.

He remarked on the disruptions in the Lok Sabha, stating, "Congress insulted the President. It’s shameful... Yesterday, a discussion could not take place on the President’s address. This is an affront to the office of the President. Such individuals should not speak about the Constitution."

Modi further asserted, "You have disrespected tribals, women, and the highest office in India."

He expressed sorrow over the events in the Lok Sabha, acknowledging the frustration but emphasizing that it occurred in the 'temple of democracy.' He pointed out that an MP from Assam was in the chair when papers were thrown at him, questioning if this was not an insult to the northeast and the people of Assam.

The Prime Minister referred to Dilip Saikia, a BJP MP from Darrang-Udalguri in Assam, and Krishna Prasad Tenneti, a TDP MP from Bapatla, Andhra Pradesh, both of whom are part of the Panel of Chairpersons in the Lok Sabha.

Modi also highlighted that a Dalit MP from Andhra Pradesh was in the chair during a previous incident, questioning if the disrespect shown was due to his background.
