Rahul Gandhi Calls for Overhaul of India's Education System
Demand for Educational Reform
On Saturday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi emphasized the urgent need for a complete transformation of the education system in India. He stated that the educational framework should provide a safe and stress-free environment for children, ensuring that the sacrifices made by parents yield positive outcomes. Gandhi shared a video clip from his 'Students' Echo' rally held in Dehradun the previous evening, where he invited Rajesh Kumar, the father of Riya Kumari, who tragically took her own life after the NEET-UG exam was canceled due to paper leak allegations in May.
A Heartfelt Message
In his post on X, Gandhi expressed deep sorrow for Rajesh Kumar, noting that the grief of losing his daughter brought tears to the eyes of everyone present. He highlighted that this pain is not isolated to one family; the paper leak scandal has affected numerous families, robbing them of their children. The Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha remarked that behind every name lies a mother and father who now see no future for their children. He insisted that the system must be rebuilt from the ground up to create an environment where children feel secure rather than stressed, and where parents can see the fruits of their sacrifices instead of tears.
Political Accountability in Education
On Friday, Gandhi asserted that no political party or organization should dominate educational institutions. He advocated for a political consensus on the issue of paper leaks, emphasizing that it is a collective responsibility. During a rally in Dehradun, he alleged that the entire education system is entangled in the paper leak scandal, impacting approximately 75 million students.
Corruption in the Education Sector
Gandhi accused the entire structure of being complicit, from coaching centers and examination venues to those involved in paper setting, translation, transportation, and vendors, all the way up to the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the Ministry of Education. He pointed out that this corrupt system has led to an increase in paper leak incidents, yet no action has been taken against the perpetrators, nor have they faced any punishment. Furthermore, he criticized the current testing system as outdated, likening it to a relic of the 19th century, and called for its modernization to meet the demands of the 21st century.
