Gandhi's Accusations Against the Home Minister

In a press conference held in New Delhi, Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha and a Congress MP, directly accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of being responsible for police violence against student protesters. He claimed that Shah had authorized the use of lethal weapons during the demonstrations, emphasizing that this issue would be raised in Parliament.

Direct Responsibility for Violence

Gandhi stated, "We hold Amit Shah directly accountable for the violence against our students. He was the one who approved the firing on our students and sanctioned the use of lethal weapons, including pellet guns. This is a critical issue for us, and we cannot tolerate our own forces firing on the future of India. This will be a significant topic in Parliament."

Failures in Education and Employment Systems

He attributed the protests to the failures of India's education, media, and job creation systems, warning of severe consequences during an economic crisis. Gandhi mentioned that students are also demanding an apology from the Prime Minister, highlighting that the deep-rooted reasons for these protests stem from the collapse of essential systems in India, which are no longer functioning effectively. He noted, "We are currently facing a serious economic crisis, and these systems become even more crucial during such times. The government must recognize that what has occurred is merely a part of a much larger problem."

A Warning to the Government

The Congress MP described the protests as a warning to the government, urging it to stop treating the country as its personal property. He cautioned that ignoring the concerns of the youth could lead to widespread unrest. Gandhi insisted that the government must start listening to the people of India, stating, "This is a warning from the students of India and the opposition that you cannot govern the country as you have been doing. This is not your personal estate; it belongs to the people of India and the Constitution. These institutions do not belong to you. If you continue down this path, you will witness a situation that is tenfold worse than what has just happened. This is the main message."
