On Thursday, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, emphasized the need for extensive organizational reforms and enhanced grassroots involvement during a Congress workshop with district presidents from Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh in Kangra.
This workshop is part of a 10-day training initiative aimed at fortifying the party's structure and fostering a more transparent and participatory organizational framework. Upon his arrival at Kangra Airport (Dharamshala), Rahul Gandhi received a warm welcome from senior Congress leaders, including Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.
Transforming District President Selection
A significant aspect of the workshop was the overhaul of the district president selection process. The Congress party has shifted from a system reliant on senior leaders' recommendations to an open application process, allowing any interested candidate to apply.

In a notable statement, he suggested that dedicated party workers at the district level could ascend to higher roles, including positions in the Rajya Sabha.
Sukhu Critiques BJP Over Financial Burden
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu also spoke at the workshop, criticizing the previous BJP administration for leaving a significant debt burden. He stated that the current government is managing financial responsibilities while pursuing development projects and maintaining capital expenditure.
Sukhu mentioned that financial aid has been provided to families affected by disasters and that efforts are ongoing to enhance the health and education sectors.
He accused the BJP of spreading misinformation and politicizing issues, asserting that the Congress government is committed to making Himachal Pradesh self-sufficient and economically robust, with a long-term vision for a prosperous and empowered state.
