Rahul Gandhi's Remarks on Cultural Identity
During the launch of the book "Vaiko in Parliament" at the Constitution Club of India, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi emphasized the importance of every state having the right to express its identity. He asserted that each state should have the freedom to uphold its culture, history, and language. Gandhi criticized the presence of individuals who do not understand Tamil, Marathi, Bengali, or Malayalam, stating that they dismiss these languages and histories as irrelevant.
He further remarked that only the language and history defined by the RSS are deemed significant. This, he noted, is the crux of the ongoing struggle. Gandhi pointed out that students are protesting because India will not tolerate the suppression of its diverse cultures, languages, or histories. He highlighted the current challenging times, where students are demanding jobs, fair examinations, and an improved education system, while the Prime Minister seems to disregard their concerns.
Gandhi warned that the ideology of the Prime Minister and the RSS poses a serious threat, as they consider the histories, identities, and languages of various Indian states to be inconsequential. He reiterated that students are taking to the streets to defend their vision of India.
At the same event, Farooq Abdullah, the leader of JKNC, remarked on India's diversity, stating that the multitude of languages, cultures, and lifestyles is what unites the nation. He stressed the need to protect this diversity to secure the future of the country.
