Rahul Gandhi's Allegations Against Prime Minister Modi
On Wednesday, Rahul Gandhi of the Congress party claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi halted India's operations against terrorist camps in Pakistan at the behest of U.S. President Donald Trump. This statement was made during a rally in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, as part of the 'Voter Rights Journey,' shortly after Trump reiterated his role as a mediator in the ceasefire between India and Pakistan following military tensions in May.
Trump asserted that he personally intervened between the two nuclear-armed neighbors, using threats of trade tariffs to compel Modi to agree to a ceasefire with Islamabad. During the rally, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha stated, 'Trump mentioned today that when war was ongoing between India and Pakistan, he called Narendra Modi and instructed him to cease all actions within 24 hours. Modi complied not in 24 hours, but within just five hours.'
Trump further claimed that he prevented the conflict from escalating into a 'nuclear war' by threatening tariffs and indicating that any trade agreements would be off the table if a ceasefire was not reached. His latest remarks came during a Cabinet meeting at the White House, where he also mentioned his conversations with Modi.
He recounted, 'I was speaking to a very terrific person, Modi from India. I asked, 'What’s happening between you and Pakistan?' Then I discussed trade with Pakistan. I said, 'What’s going on between you and India?' This has been going on for a long time, sometimes for hundreds of years under different names.' It is important to note that India and Pakistan became independent nations in 1947, ending nearly 200 years of British colonial rule, having previously been one country.
