Raghav Chadha and Manish Tewari Address India-Pakistan Tensions

Political Reactions to India-Pakistan Military Conflict
In light of the ongoing military tensions between India and Pakistan, Aam Aadmi Party leader Raghav Chadha made a significant statement. He emphasized that while we can choose our friends, we cannot select our neighbors, especially when it comes to a neighbor like Pakistan, which he believes deserves consequences for its actions. Chadha pointed out that India is currently battling not only Pakistan but also a broader terrorist mindset.
Congress leader Manish Tewari also weighed in, asserting that India's surgical strike was a legal action under Article 51 of the UN Charter. He noted that Pakistan's actions are exacerbating the situation, and it is in Pakistan's best interest to de-escalate tensions.
Criticism of Pakistani Military Statements
On another front, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri sharply criticized comments made by a spokesperson for the Pakistani military, highlighting the stark differences in democratic practices between the two nations. Misri's remarks came amid rising tensions and verbal exchanges following recent military incidents. During a press briefing, he stated, "The spokesperson of the Pakistani army seems pleased that the Indian public should criticize their government on various issues."
Democracy and Civil Liberties
Accusing the Pakistani military establishment of straying from democratic governance standards, the Foreign Secretary emphasized that civil oversight and freedom of expression are fundamental to democracy in India. He remarked, "It may be surprising for Pakistan that citizens criticize their own government—this is a hallmark of an open and functioning democracy. It should not be surprising that Pakistan is unfamiliar with this concept."
