Quinton de Kock Discusses Pressure of ICC World Cups in India
High Stakes of Playing in India
Quinton de Kock, the star wicketkeeper-batter from South Africa, expressed that competing in the ICC World Cups held in India comes with significant pressure due to the large and enthusiastic crowds. He emphasized that World Cup matches differ greatly from regular cricket games around the globe.
World Cup Performance Insights
Currently leading the run charts in the SA20 League 2025-26 season as captain of the Sunrisers Eastern Cape, de Kock has accumulated 205 runs in five matches, including two half-centuries at an impressive strike rate of 173.73. When questioned about his readiness for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2026, he remarked that a player's current form is irrelevant. He noted that he has witnessed many players who were out of form excel at World Cups, while others in good form often struggle.
"Honestly, it makes no difference. I've seen players throughout my career who were out of form arrive at World Cups and score the most runs. Conversely, those in form sometimes fail to perform. World Cups are a different challenge altogether, especially in India, where the crowds are large and loud. It's a unique experience compared to regular cricket," de Kock stated.
Sharing Experience with Young Players
During South Africa's tour of India in late 2025, de Kock was the second-highest run-scorer in the five-match T20I series, amassing 156 runs in four matches at a remarkable strike rate of 181.40, including two half-centuries. He mentioned his intention to share his insights about Indian conditions with younger players who may not have experience playing on those specific grounds.
"For me, it doesn't matter where I've played; my experiences remain consistent. I've visited India multiple times, and if I haven't learned the conditions by now, then I haven't been doing my job properly. My goal is to enter the World Cup and impart my knowledge of India to those who haven't played at certain venues," he added.
