Quimcy Dsouza Advances to Semifinals in Teqball

Indian teqball newcomer Quimcy Joaquim Dsouza has made a remarkable impression at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, achieving two victories in the Women's Singles category to secure her spot in the semifinals on Friday.

In her second match of Group A, Quimcy faced Japan's Yuina Sakamoto. After losing the first game 10-12, she rallied back to win the next two games 12-11 and 13-11, ultimately claiming a hard-fought 2-1 victory.

Following this, she delivered a dominant performance against Cambodia's Koemyean DY in her third match, winning 2-0. Quimcy took the first game 12-9 and finished the match with a 12-7 win, ensuring her direct qualification for the semifinals.

Next Challenge: Mixed Doubles

With her singles journey progressing well, Quimcy is now set to focus on the Mixed Doubles event. She will team up with fellow Indian athlete Mohamed Anas Imran Beg. The duo is scheduled to compete against the Philippines' Jhoana Abulencia and Prince Agustin at 9:30 AM IST.

Indian Women's Cricket Team Kicks Off Gold-Medal Defense

On the same day, the cricket tournament at the Asian Games 2026 commenced, with the Indian women's team facing Japan in the quarter-finals. Under the leadership of captain Harmanpreet Kaur, the defending champions are set to begin their title defense in a knockout match at Korogi Sports Park.

India enters the Asian Games following a record-extending eighth Asia Cup title, having triumphed over Sri Lanka in the final last week. In contrast, Japan is participating in the Asian Games cricket competition for the third time.

Ranked third in the T20I standings, India is the highest-ranked team in the eight-team women's competition and is considered one of the top contenders for the championship. This match will also mark the inaugural encounter between India and Japan.
