Questions Arise Over Safety Protocols Following Ahmedabad Plane Crash Report

Family of Crash Victim Seeks Clarity

The family of Yashpal Singh Vansadia, a victim of the tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad, has expressed deep concerns following the release of the preliminary report by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB). Yashpal, who lost both parents in the incident, is eager to understand if all necessary safety inspections of the aircraft were conducted thoroughly and on schedule.

He stated, "I have several inquiries for the government and the investigative bodies. The report indicates one pilot questioning the other about whether a switch was turned off, suggesting potential technical malfunctions. Were all preventive measures for the aircraft properly executed? I hope to receive answers to these pressing questions."

The devastating crash resulted in the loss of 260 lives, comprising 229 passengers, 12 crew members, and 19 individuals on the ground.

The 15-page report details a chilling sequence of events that transpired within 90 seconds after takeoff, during which both engines unexpectedly failed, causing a rapid descent.

Data retrieved from the Enhanced Airborne Flight Recorder (EAFR) indicated that the fuel cutoff switches for both engines were mistakenly switched from RUN to CUTOFF within a second of each other shortly after takeoff. One pilot was heard asking, "Why did you cut off?" to which the other replied, "I did not."

A comprehensive final report is anticipated in the upcoming months. Flight AI171 was scheduled to travel from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, carrying 230 passengers and crew members. This incident marks one of the most catastrophic aviation disasters in India in recent years.
