Ceasefire Negotiations Between Iran and Israel
The Prime Minister of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, has successfully secured Iran's consent for a ceasefire proposed by the United States in the ongoing conflict with Israel, as reported by a source familiar with the discussions. This agreement was reached during a phone conversation between Al Thani and Iranian officials.
This dialogue followed a communication from US President Donald Trump to Qatar's Emir, where he conveyed that Israel had accepted the ceasefire proposal and sought Doha's help in persuading Tehran to agree to the terms.
The high-stakes conversation occurred shortly after Iran launched missile strikes targeting US military bases in Qatar and Iraq earlier that day.
In a subsequent announcement on Truth Social, Trump declared that both Israel and Iran had reached an agreement for what he termed a 'complete and total' ceasefire, set to take effect in about six hours.
Trump expressed his congratulations, stating, 'It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE (in approximately 6 hours from now, when Israel and Iran have wound down and completed their in progress, final missions!), for 12 hours, at which point the War will be considered, ENDED!'
He elaborated that Iran would initiate the ceasefire first, followed by Israel, leading to a total halt of hostilities within the next 24 hours. Trump urged both nations to maintain a 'peaceful and respectful' demeanor during the overlapping ceasefire periods.
He stated, 'Officially, Iran will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 12th Hour, Israel will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 24th Hour, an Official END to THE 12 DAY WAR will be saluted by the World. During each CEASEFIRE, the other side will remain PEACEFUL and RESPECTFUL.'
Trump further remarked, 'Assuming everything proceeds as planned, which it will, I would like to congratulate both Countries, Israel and Iran, on having the Stamina, Courage, and Intelligence to end what should be called, “THE 12 DAY WAR.” This is a War that could have gone on for years and destroyed the entire Middle East, but it didn’t, and never will!'
He concluded with a blessing for all involved, stating, 'God bless Israel, God bless Iran, God bless the Middle East, God bless the United States of America, and GOD BLESS THE WORLD!'
The conflict initially erupted on June 13 when Israel executed a significant airstrike on Iranian military and nuclear facilities, dubbed 'Operation Rising Lion.' In response, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched a comprehensive drone and missile offensive named 'Operation True Promise 3,' targeting Israeli fuel production sites and energy infrastructure.
Tensions further escalated after the US conducted precision airstrikes on three critical Iranian nuclear sites under 'Operation Midnight Hammer.'
Iran retaliated by firing multiple missiles at US military installations in Qatar and Iraq, including the Al Udeid Air Base, which is the largest US military base in the region.
