Postponement Announcement

The Qatar Grand Prix, initially set for April, has been rescheduled to November 8 due to ongoing geopolitical issues in the Middle East, as confirmed by an official announcement. This decision was made in collaboration with the Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), local authorities, and the event promoter, prioritizing the safety and well-being of all participants and attendees.

Impact on MotoGP Schedule

After thorough scenario planning and calendar assessments, the new date was selected to minimize disruptions to the overall MotoGP schedule. Consequently, the Portuguese Grand Prix in Portimão will now occur on November 22, followed by the season finale in Valencia on November 29. All other races in the 2026 MotoGP World Championship will proceed as planned.

CEO's Statement on the Change

Carmelo Ezpeleta, the CEO of MotoGP, expressed that the decision was made with careful consideration and in full cooperation with partners in Qatar and the racing community. He emphasized the commitment to ensuring safety and delivering high-quality events. Ticket holders will have the option to transfer their tickets to the rescheduled event. Ezpeleta also acknowledged the support from partners in Portimão and Valencia for their flexibility in accommodating the revised schedule.

Support from Qatari Officials

Abdulrahman bin Abdullatif Al Mannai, President of the Qatar Motor & Motorcycle Federation and Lusail International Circuit, stated that they respect and support the MotoGP's decision to postpone the event. He thanked fans, teams, and partners for their understanding and expressed eagerness to welcome everyone back to the Lusail International Circuit.

FIM's Endorsement of the Postponement

Jorge Viegas, President of the FIM, voiced full support for the decision to reschedule the Qatar Grand Prix, highlighting the importance of prioritizing the safety of riders, teams, officials, and fans amid the current geopolitical climate.

Geopolitical Background

The postponement comes in light of escalating tensions in West Asia, marked by military actions involving Iran, the United States, and Israel. This follows the assassination of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, during joint military operations by the US and Israel. In retaliation, Iran has targeted American military bases in various Arab nations and Israeli interests in the region, while Israel has expanded its military actions to Lebanon against Hezbollah and Iranian-affiliated groups.
