Tamil Nadu Government's Appeal to Supreme Court
The Tamil Nadu government has requested the Supreme Court to revoke an interim order issued on October 13, which mandated a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the Karur stampede that resulted in 41 fatalities. The state government asserted that its own Special Investigation Team (SIT) is fully capable of conducting an impartial investigation. In an affidavit submitted to the Supreme Court, the Home Department argued that the directive to transfer the investigation to a central agency was issued without hearing the state's perspective and was akin to allowing a writ petition before a decision on its admissibility. Additionally, the government requested the reinstatement of Justice Aruna Jagadeesan's inquiry commission.
