Putin's Assurance to Kursk Residents

Moscow: During a recent visit to the Kursk region, Russian President Vladimir Putin assured that displaced residents would be able to return home safely, despite the ongoing difficulties. He emphasized the importance of ensuring security through demining efforts in populated areas, as reported by local media.

Putin's visit included meetings with representatives from volunteer organizations and discussions with acting governor Alexander Khinshtein. He also toured the construction site of the Kursk-2 Nuclear Power Plant and engaged with local municipal leaders.

The President supported a proposal to expand the special economic zone throughout the Kursk region and allocated funds for the restoration of damaged homes. Additionally, he confirmed the continuation of monthly payments for those temporarily displaced.

Putin remarked, "We have demonstrated to the world, and to ourselves, that we are a united people. This unity is particularly evident in challenging times."

In August 2024, the Ukrainian military initiated an offensive in the southern Kursk region, but by April 26, Putin announced that Russia had regained full control.

Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, praised the involvement of North Korean troops in the Kursk campaign during his report to Putin last month.

"I want to particularly highlight the contributions of the servicemen from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, who provided significant assistance in accordance with our strategic partnership treaty," Gerasimov stated.

On April 28, North Korea officially confirmed the conclusion of its military operations in the Kursk region, marking its first acknowledgment of military involvement.

Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, decided to deploy armed forces to Russia, citing the situation as a justification under Article 4 of the comprehensive strategic partnership treaty between the two nations, according to a statement from the Korean Central News Agency.
