Puri's Transformation into a Municipal Corporation

Bhubaneswar/Puri: On Friday, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi revealed plans to elevate Puri municipality to a municipal corporation, making it the sixth such entity in Odisha.

During a press briefing in Bhubaneswar, Majhi emphasized that this move aims to enhance civic facilities and establish a stronger administrative framework for the historic town, renowned for the iconic Jagannath Temple.

As per sources, the upgrade process is set to commence on Saturday. This initiative will involve the incorporation of ten adjacent gram panchayats into Puri's municipal jurisdiction. This merger is anticipated to facilitate improved development strategies and service provision in the area.

Currently, Odisha boasts five municipal corporations: Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Berhampur, Sambalpur, and Rourkela. With this upgrade, Puri will join the ranks as the sixth city in the state to achieve this status.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister unveiled plans for a state-of-the-art museum and library in Puri, aimed at celebrating and promoting Jagannath culture. The envisioned museum will offer modern facilities for both locals and visitors.
