On Friday, the police in Puri apprehended six individuals linked to an illegal arms trafficking operation and confiscated six firearms, according to a police spokesperson.

A specialized team was established under the guidance of Puri Superintendent of Police, Vinit Agarwal, to execute the operation following credible intelligence regarding the smuggling activities.

The team focused on locating the arms suppliers, and after extensive surveillance over several months, they pinpointed a significant supply chain managed by the infamous arms dealer, Denga Muna, also known as Ramesh Parida.

The operation led to the capture of six suspects, all associated with the organized crime group, and the recovery of six illegal firearms along with 20 rounds of ammunition from an abandoned structure at urban haat.

Agarwal mentioned that the investigation is ongoing to uncover the complete network involved in the illegal arms trade within the district.

He noted that due to recent amendments in criminal legislation, organized crime is now classified as a serious offense, and the suspects are being charged under Section 111 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (Organized Crime), the Arms Act, and other pertinent laws.

The confiscated items included six homemade pistols with magazines, 20 rounds of ammunition, three mobile phones, and cash amounting to Rs 2,100.
