Punjab's Voter List Revamp Achieves Major Milestone
Significant Progress in Voter List Digitization
The special intensive revision (SIR) campaign aimed at enhancing the accuracy and robustness of the voter list in Punjab has achieved remarkable success. Within just the first 16 days of the campaign, over one million enumeration forms have been successfully digitized. Anindita Mitra, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Punjab, shared this significant update on Saturday.
The CEO reported that nearly all voters have been reached, with 99.34 percent of the enumeration forms distributed so far. She emphasized that collecting these forms and digitizing them promptly is a crucial step towards creating a clean voter list and strengthening the democratic process.
While commending the officials who made this campaign successful at the grassroots level, the CEO praised the efforts of booth-level officers (BLOs), supervisors, assistant electoral registration officers (AEROs), and electoral registration officers (EROs). She noted that due to their diligence, the distribution, collection, and digitization of forms were completed on time across all 117 assembly constituencies and 24,453 polling stations in the state.
To accelerate the campaign and ensure greater public participation, two special camps will be held in Punjab on July 11 and 12. These camps are scheduled from 8 AM to 3 PM, allowing citizens to engage in the process.
Providing details on upcoming electoral activities, the CEO mentioned that the rationalization of polling stations will be completed by July 24. Following this, the draft of the voter list will be published on August 3. Citizens will be able to submit their claims and objections regarding this draft from August 3 to September 2, with resolutions taking place between August 3 and September 28. The final voter list is set to be published on October 1.
