Police Operation Targets Extortion Ring Linked to Terrorism

The Punjab Police announced on Sunday that they have dismantled a module involved in terrorism and extortion by arresting two individuals. This operation is connected to a member of the banned organization Babbar Khalsa International (BKI).

According to Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, the BKI member, identified as Jivan Fauji, was operating an extortion gang targeting individuals in Punjab's border districts.

He confirmed the arrests of two accomplices, Karamjeet Singh from Verowal and Gurlal Singh, also known as Harman, from Goindwal Sahib in Tarn Taran.

In a post on 'X', the DGP revealed that Fauji had supplied a firearm to Karamjeet and Gurlal, instructing them to open fire at a furniture store in the Amritsar area.

He stated, “This shooting incident was part of an extortion attempt, where Jivan Fauji demanded ransom from the store owner's relative residing in Canada.”

Yadav added, “Based on Gurlal's disclosures, a police team took him along to recover the weapon used in the crime. During this operation, Gurlal attempted to shoot at the police team, prompting them to respond in self-defense.”

“Gurlal sustained a gunshot wound to his left leg and was promptly admitted to the civil hospital in Amritsar for treatment,” he noted. A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed, and a thorough investigation is underway.
