Punjab Police Uncovers Major Drug Smuggling Operation Linked to Pakistan
Significant Drug Bust in Punjab
Chandigarh, January 6: In a significant operation against cross-border drug trafficking, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force of Punjab Police, in collaboration with the Border Security Force (BSF), seized 20 kg of heroin and arrested four individuals, including a key figure responsible for managing the supply chain, as stated by Gaurav Yadav, the state's Director General of Police, on Tuesday.
Initial investigations indicate that the arrested individuals are connected to handlers based in Pakistan and were overseeing the distribution and delivery of drug shipments throughout the region.
An FIR has been filed under the NDPS Act, and authorities are currently working to identify the cross-border operatives, trace the supply routes, and dismantle the entire drug network.
Recently, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police dismantled a drug smuggling cartel with ties to Pakistan, arresting seven suspects and recovering 4.075 kg of heroin, 1 kg of methamphetamine (known as ICE), and a 9mm Glock pistol.
DGP Yadav noted that investigations revealed the drugs were smuggled from Pakistan and distributed within the state through local networks guided by social media.
Commissioner of Police (Amritsar) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar shared that, acting on reliable intelligence, police teams first detained Judgebir Singh, recovering 225 grams of heroin from him.
Further interrogation and digital communication analysis led to the arrest of his associate, Jaspal Singh, from whom 1.6 kg of heroin was seized.
Continuing the operation, police apprehended Anmolpreet Singh, Harpinder Singh, and Tarunpreet Singh, resulting in the recovery of an additional 2.2 kg of heroin. The investigation has shown that these individuals were functioning as couriers and distributors, operating under direct orders from Pakistan-based handlers who coordinated drug drops and distribution across various districts.
