Punjab Police Uncovers Major Drug Smuggling Operation, Arrests Four Suspects
Significant Drug Bust by Punjab Police
On Tuesday, Gaurav Yadav, the Director General of Police (DGP) for Punjab, announced a significant operation against cross-border smuggling networks. The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), in collaboration with the Border Security Force (BSF), successfully seized approximately 20 kilograms of heroin and apprehended four individuals, including the leader of the smuggling ring.
Yadav revealed that initial investigations indicated the main suspect was in contact with traffickers based in Pakistan, coordinating the delivery of narcotics across the region. He shared on the social media platform 'X' that a case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and efforts are ongoing to identify the cross-border smugglers, trace the trafficking routes, and dismantle the entire network.
Recent Drug Trafficking Arrests
Last week, the Amritsar Commissionerate police disrupted a drug trafficking racket linked to handlers in Pakistan. They arrested seven suspects and confiscated 4.075 kilograms of heroin, one kilogram of methamphetamine (commonly known as ICE), and a 9mm Glock pistol. DGP Yadav noted that the investigation revealed these drugs were smuggled from Pakistan and distributed throughout the state via local modules guided through social media.
Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar provided details about the operation, stating that based on reliable intelligence, police teams first apprehended Jajbir Singh, recovering 225 grams of heroin from him. Through continuous questioning and technical analysis of digital communications, investigators advanced through the supply chain, leading to the arrest of his associate Jaspal Singh, who had 1.6 kilograms of heroin in his possession.
Further Arrests and Investigation
Continuing the operation based on new revelations, police teams arrested Anmolpreet Singh, Harpinder Singh, and Tarunpreet Singh, seizing an additional 2.2 kilograms of heroin from them. The investigation indicated that these suspects were acting as couriers and distributors, operating under the clear instructions of handlers based in Pakistan, who coordinated the delivery and circulation of narcotics across various districts.
