Punjab Police Uncovers Major Cross-Border Heroin Smuggling Operation
Significant Drug Bust by Amritsar Police
The counter-intelligence unit of the Amritsar police has made a significant breakthrough in their fight against drug trafficking by dismantling a cross-border heroin smuggling operation linked to Pakistan. This intelligence-driven operation took place near the Indo-Pak border in Attari, resulting in the seizure of 4 kg of heroin. Punjab's Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav, stated, “The suspects had collected a heroin shipment near the Indo-Pak border in Attari and were intercepted while attempting to deliver it.”
According to the DGP, a formal case has been initiated, and investigations are ongoing to uncover the entire network, including both upstream and downstream connections. The Punjab Police is dedicated to eradicating cross-border drug syndicates and safeguarding the region from narco-terrorism.
Previously, the Amritsar Police Commissionerate had dismantled a sophisticated heroin trafficking ring with ties to Pakistan. Officials reported on social media that one of the main suspects, identified as Sarbjit, also known as Joban, was in direct contact with a notorious smuggler named Rana across the border. Sarbjit had been arrested earlier alongside a juvenile, with 1 kg of heroin confiscated from them.
Additionally, the DGP revealed that two other smugglers, Dharam Singh and Kulbir Singh, were apprehended earlier with 5 kg of heroin in their possession.
In a statement, the police highlighted their success in disrupting cross-border drug trafficking, noting that Sarbjit, operating from a village near the border, was in direct communication with the infamous smuggler Rana. His arrest, along with a juvenile, led to the capture of Dharam Singh and Kulbir Singh from Ajnala, resulting in a total seizure of 6.106 kg of heroin and two motorcycles.
The First Information Report has been filed under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
