Major Espionage Operation in Punjab

New Delhi: In a significant intelligence-led operation, the Amritsar Rural Police in Punjab have detained two individuals suspected of engaging in espionage activities associated with Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

Punjab's Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav, shared this information on his social media account on Sunday, revealing the names of the suspects.

The individuals arrested have been identified as Gurpreet Singh, also known as Gopy Foji, and Sahil Masih, referred to as Shali.

Initial investigations indicate that Gurpreet Singh maintained direct communication with ISI operatives and is believed to have transmitted sensitive information through pen drives.

The primary ISI handler linked to this case has been identified as Rana Javed, according to the DGP's statement.

The police have confiscated two mobile phones allegedly used for communication with ISI agents.

The DGP noted that investigations are ongoing to dismantle the larger espionage and terror network, with efforts focused on identifying all accomplices.

Yadav emphasized the Punjab Police's commitment to protecting the nation's sovereignty and integrity, pledging to take all necessary actions against individuals involved in anti-national activities.

Previously, the Punjab Police apprehended a spy connected to the ISI and Pakistan-based Khalistani supporter Gopal Singh Chawla.

The suspect, Gagandeep Singh, was captured in Tarn Taran on June 2. Officials reported that he had been leaking sensitive and classified information, including troop deployments and strategic locations, which posed a significant threat to national security.

Further investigations revealed that he had shared classified details during Operation Sindoor, endangering national security, as stated by the DGP.

The police recovered two mobile devices from him, containing sensitive intelligence shared with Pakistani operatives and details of over 20 ISI contacts. He had also received payments from these operatives through Indian channels.

On June 21, a breakthrough occurred when the Amritsar Commissionerate Police dismantled a Pakistan-backed Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror module, managed by UK-based handler Dharam Singh, alias Dharma Sandhu. A local operative was arrested, and six advanced foreign-made pistols were seized, as reported by DGP Gaurav Yadav on Saturday.

The arrested individual was identified as Onkar Singh, alias Nawab, from Jalalusma village in Amritsar. The firearms, smuggled via drones from the India-Pakistan border, included four 9 mm Glock pistols and two .30 bore PX5 pistols.
