Terror Plot Foiled by Counter Intelligence

The Counter Intelligence unit in Ferozepur has successfully thwarted a terror scheme orchestrated by Harwinder Rinda, a terrorist associated with the ISI in Pakistan, leading to the apprehension of two operatives. This information was disclosed by the Director General of Police (DGP) on Thursday.

The individuals taken into custody have been identified as Harpreet Singh, also known as Preet, from Bhullar village in Tarn Taran, and Gulshan Singh, referred to as Nandu, hailing from Rampura village in Amritsar. Authorities seized two 86P hand grenades and a 9MM pistol, along with five live cartridges, during the operation.

This incident comes just before Independence Day and follows the recent dismantling of a Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror cell by Punjab Police, which resulted in the arrest of five operatives, including three minors, in Rajasthan's Tonk and Jaipur districts. During that operation, police recovered another 86P hand grenade and a .30 bore pistol.

DGP Gaurav Yadav indicated that initial investigations suggest the arrested individuals were acting under the guidance of handlers located in the UK, USA, and Europe.

Further inquiries have uncovered plans by the suspects to target government facilities and police stations using grenades, aiming to disrupt peace in the region. The DGP confirmed that investigations are ongoing to trace both the origins and connections related to this case.

AIG CI Ferozepur, Gursewak Singh Brar, provided details of the operation, stating that based on reliable human intelligence, the Counter Intelligence teams executed an operation that led to the arrest of Harpreet Singh and Gulshan Singh in Talwandi Bhai, Ferozepur.

An FIR has been filed under section 25 of the Arms Act and sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act at the SSOC Fazilka Police Station.
