Punjab Police Uncovers Terror Module Linked to ISI
On Monday, Punjab Police announced the dismantling of a terror module associated with the ISI-backed Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) during a collaborative operation involving Counter-Intelligence Jalandhar and SBS Nagar police. The Director General of Police (DGP) revealed that a key suspect was apprehended, and an 86-P hand grenade was seized, thwarting a planned attack. In a post on X, the DGP highlighted this significant achievement against cross-border terror networks, stating that the operation successfully disrupted the BKI module, which was being managed by handlers based abroad.
Details of the Operation
Preliminary investigations indicate that the arrested individual obtained the grenade near Adamapur from DLB, or 'Dead Letter Box', as instructed by handlers overseas. This method serves as a covert means for communication and delivery of goods, utilized by terrorist groups, handlers, and organized crime syndicates to exchange instructions, money, weapons, or other items without direct contact. Such tactics allow for communication between handlers and operatives while minimizing the risk of direct interaction.
Investigation into Larger Terror Network
The DGP stated that an FIR has been filed at the Sadar Nawanshahr police station under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Explosive Substances Act. The police are now conducting an extensive investigation to trace this larger network and identify the foreign handlers allegedly involved in this operation. The inquiry will also focus on the local support network associated with this module and its connections.
