Punjab Police Arrest Fugitive Soldier with Heroin and Grenade
Fugitive Soldier Captured with Drugs and Weapon
The Punjab Police have apprehended a fugitive soldier along with 500 grams of heroin and a grenade, as confirmed by a senior official on Saturday. Police Chief Gaurav Yadav reported that Rajbir Singh, also known as 'Fauji', was arrested in the town of Raxaul near the India-Nepal border in Bihar while attempting to flee the country via Nepal.
This arrest followed the capture of Chirag, a resident of Kashi Ram Colony in Fazilka, who was found in possession of 407 grams of heroin and a 9mm pistol.
According to Yadav, initial investigations revealed that Fauji had enlisted in the army in 2011 but went AWOL in February 2025 after a case of espionage was filed against him and his associates earlier this year at the Garhinda police station in Amritsar (Rural) under the Official Secrets Act.
Assistant Inspector General (AIG) D. Sudarvijhi stated that the investigation also uncovered that in 2022, Fauji had established contact with certain organizations based in Pakistan through social media, and in exchange for heroin shipments, he began relaying sensitive and classified military information to them.
