In a significant move to bolster food and nutrition security in Punjab, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced the launch of the 'Meri Rasoi Yojana' on Monday. Starting in April, this initiative aims to provide free food kits to 40 lakh families, in addition to the wheat they receive under the National Food Security Act. During the unveiling of this scheme, CM Mann emphasized that his government is adept at mobilizing resources for public welfare programs, operating with integrity and vision. He highlighted the moral obligation to ensure nutritious food for every child, stating that it is not merely a promise but a responsibility. Speaking to the media, the Chief Minister explained that this initiative reflects the Punjab government's commitment to strengthening food and nutrition security for every household. He acknowledged Punjab's remarkable contribution to making the nation self-sufficient in food production, stating, "The hardworking farmers of Punjab have ensured that no one in the country goes to bed hungry. Our state has always been at the forefront of feeding the nation. However, there are still families in Punjab struggling to secure daily meals. Keeping their challenges in mind, the state government has launched this significant 'Meri Rasoi Yojana.' Under this scheme, the state will distribute food kits to 40 lakh families. Each kit will include two kilograms of lentils, two kilograms of sugar, one kilogram of salt, 200 grams of turmeric powder, and one liter of mustard oil, in addition to the wheat already provided to eligible beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act.

He further elaborated that Markfed will serve as the nodal agency for this initiative. CM Mann stated that Markfed will be responsible for distributing these kits, which will be provided free of charge by the Food and Civil Supplies Department. Emphasizing Punjab's legacy, the Chief Minister remarked, "Punjabis have previously helped the country overcome food shortages, and this initiative is part of our government's series of policies aimed at public welfare. This was not a guaranteed promise nor part of our party manifesto, but it is our moral duty towards the people of Punjab, and we are fulfilling it. The CM assured that this initiative will ensure every child in the state receives nutritious food, thereby strengthening food and nutrition security across Punjab.
