The captain of Punjab Kings, Shreyas Iyer, expressed his team's confusion following a dismal batting performance in Qualifier 1 of IPL 2025, where they were dismissed for a mere 101 runs by Royal Challengers Bengaluru. RCB successfully chased down the target in just 10 overs, securing their place in the IPL 2025 final.

In his post-match comments, Iyer emphasized that this defeat should not be forgotten but rather serve as a prompt for self-reflection as they prepare for their next playoff match.

“This is not a day to forget; we need to reassess our strategy. We were confused and lost too many wickets. It's something we need to analyze further.”

Batting first on a challenging Mullanpur pitch, PBKS struggled, collapsing within 14.1 overs, with only Marcus Stoinis providing some resistance with 26 runs off 17 balls. RCB's Josh Hazlewood and Suyash Sharma each took three wickets.

Despite the loss, Iyer stated he had no regrets regarding the team's pre-match strategies, asserting that the execution on the field was lacking.

“I have no doubts about my planning decisions. Everything was well-prepared off the field. We just couldn't execute, and I can't blame our bowlers for the low total.”

RCB's batting lineup, particularly Phil Salt, who scored an impressive 56 not out off 27 balls, made the chase look effortless. PBKS's bowlers had little opportunity to make an impact, resulting in a disappointing eight-wicket defeat. This outcome means Punjab will now compete in Qualifier 2, where they must quickly address their batting shortcomings.

“We need to improve our batting on this pitch. There has been inconsistent bounce in all matches here. We can't make excuses; as professionals, we must rise to the occasion. We've lost this battle, but the war is not over.”
