Calm Leadership Ahead of IPL 2026 Match

Sairaj Bahutule, the spin bowling coach for Punjab Kings (PBKS), praised captain Shreyas Iyer for instilling a sense of calm and clarity within the team. He also acknowledged the robust culture fostered by head coach Ricky Ponting as they prepare for their upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 match against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi this Saturday. Under Iyer's leadership, PBKS has remained unbeaten this season, securing five victories out of six matches, with one game resulting in no result.

Iyer's Exceptional Leadership Skills

Bahutule, who has observed Iyer's development over the years, noted that the captain's leadership transcends his individual performance. "Having grown up in Mumbai, I've witnessed his evolution. His leadership is remarkable as he takes responsibility not just for himself but also for the ten players on the field," Bahutule stated during the pre-match press briefing.

"His ability to collaborate with both the support staff and non-playing players is outstanding. He knows how to maximize player potential and maintains composure under pressure," he added.

Foundation Laid by Ponting

The strong start to the season for Punjab is largely attributed to the groundwork established by coach Ponting last year. "The culture Ricky built last season and the values he instilled have been carried into this season. With Shreyas as captain and Ricky as head coach, our collaboration is robust, and we have a clear strategy for each game," Bahutule remarked.

Focus on One Game at a Time

Despite their successful start, Bahutule emphasized the importance of staying grounded. "This tournament is high-risk and high-pressure. While we've performed well in batting, bowling, and fielding, we understand the necessity of taking one game at a time and not getting ahead of ourselves," he explained.

Commendation for Bowling Performance

Bahutule also commended the Punjab bowling unit for their performance during critical moments, especially in the middle and death overs. "Our bowlers have executed our plans effectively. We aim to keep strategies straightforward and utilize our bowlers in phases where they can excel," he noted.
