Significant Announcement for State Employees

Chandigarh. In a festive gesture for Diwali, the Punjab government has announced a substantial increase in the dearness allowance (DA) for state employees and pensioners. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann revealed this decision during a press conference on Wednesday, stating that the DA will rise by 3%, bringing the total rate to 53%.

DA Increase Benefits Nearly 800,000 Individuals

The Chief Minister described this increase as a Diwali gift, emphasizing that approximately 800,000 employees and pensioners will directly benefit from this decision. He stated, “Today, we are providing a significant Diwali gift to nearly 800,000 employees and pensioners in Punjab with a 3% increase in their dearness allowance.”

Total DA Increase of 11% in Recent Months

Bhagwant Mann explained that the government has raised the DA by a total of 11% within the last two months. Previously, an 8% increase (in two installments of 4% each) had already been implemented, raising the DA from 42% to 50%. With the new 3% increase, the DA now stands at 53%.

He reminded everyone that when the Aam Aadmi Party took office in 2022, the DA was only 28%. This increase to 53% reflects the government's commitment to its employees.

Financial Impact of the Decision

This decision will provide employees and pensioners with an annual financial benefit of approximately ₹3,988 crores. The Chief Minister noted that considering the festive season, this amount will be transferred to the employees' accounts. The increased DA will be credited along with the November salaries and December pensions.

Commitment to Employee Welfare

The Chief Minister emphasized that employees are the backbone of the government, and his administration is fully committed to their welfare, rights, and improved living standards. He also mentioned that the government remains open to discussions regarding other employee demands.

Joy Among Employees

This announcement has sparked joy among government employees and pensioners across Punjab. The additional benefit received during Diwali is expected to ease their festive expenses. Various employee organizations have also welcomed this initiative from the government.

It is noteworthy that in September 2026, the government had already notified an 8% increase in DA, effective from September 1. The new 3% increase will provide further relief to employees.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann clarified that his government is continuously working to protect employee interests and will take all necessary steps for their welfare in the future.
