Punjab FC Triumphs Again

In a repeat of last year's championship match, Punjab FC successfully defended their AIFF Junior League title by defeating Minerva Academy FC in a dramatic penalty shootout, concluding with a score of 5-3 after the game ended in a 1-1 draw at the Bambolim Athletic Stadium in Goa on Thursday.

Jasmeet Singh opened the scoring for Punjab FC in the 38th minute, while Minerva Academy FC equalized shortly after halftime with a goal from Md Azam Khan in the 49th minute.

Penalty Shootout Highlights

During the shootout, Pawandeep Singh, Aayush Koul, Akash P, Kabyansh Rai, and Jasmeet Singh successfully converted their penalties for Punjab FC. In contrast, Minerva Academy FC saw Konthoujam Denamoni, Md Azam Khan, and Greatson Hidam score, but Ramung Zimik's attempt was saved by the goalkeeper.

Augustasya Gupta's crucial penalty save earned him the Player of the Match title, while Jasmeet Singh was honored as the Player of the Tournament for his outstanding performance.

First Half: Minerva's Control and Punjab's Goal

Minerva Academy FC aimed to control the match from the outset, dominating the midfield and holding 67% possession in the first half. They created seven clear chances but failed to convert any into goals.

Punjab FC, however, found the net against the run of play in the 38th minute. Jasmeet Singh capitalized on a precise through ball from Kamlesh Chand, beating the goalkeeper to give Punjab FC a crucial lead before halftime.

Second Half: Intense Action and Equalizer

The second half kicked off with immediate intensity. Punjab FC earned a free-kick early on but could not capitalize on it.

Minerva Academy FC equalized just four minutes into the half, thanks to a brilliant individual effort from MD Azam Khan, who maneuvered past two defenders and scored after reacting quickly to a rebound.

Azam nearly scored again shortly after, but a timely clearance from Akash P denied him. The second half turned into a thrilling back-and-forth contest, with both teams creating opportunities but failing to secure a winner in regulation time.

The Penalty Shootout Showdown

Punjab FC took the lead in the penalty shootout with Pawandeep Singh's successful conversion. Minerva Academy FC's Konthoujam Denamoni equalized.

Aayush Koul scored next for Punjab FC, matched by Azam Khan for Minerva. The pivotal moment came when Akash P scored, and Ramung Zimik's attempt was saved by Augustasya Gupta.

Kabyansh Rai extended Punjab's lead, and although Greatson Hidam scored for Minerva, it was Punjab FC's Jasmeet Singh who sealed the victory with the final penalty.
