Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann Addresses Newly Elected Members, Criticizes Opposition Parties
Bhagwant Mann's Address to Newly Elected Members
During a speech directed at the newly elected district council and block committee members, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann emphasized that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is a national party that seeks votes based solely on its performance. He claimed that the Akali Dal, Congress, and BJP are united in their efforts to hinder his progress, but he asserted that they will not succeed. Mann expressed confidence that many from the audience would eventually reach the assembly. He described AAP as a disciplined party, contrasting it with other parties that struggle to attract crowds even for speeches at events like the Maghi Mela. He urged voters to avoid supporting the BJP, Congress, and Akali Dal, warning that they would lead Punjab to ruin. He criticized previous governments for entangling Punjab in drug issues and highlighted his administration's campaign to eradicate drug abuse, which has resulted in the imprisonment of major drug traffickers. Mann appealed to the public not to vote for parties that protect drug dealers, as this would jeopardize the state's progress, including free electricity, community clinics, and job opportunities for youth.
Arvind Kejriwal's Commitment to the Common People
AAP's national convenor, Arvind Kejriwal, stated on Thursday that the party is dedicated to granting electoral tickets to individuals who earn public trust through their work. Speaking at an event in Ludhiana, he noted that AAP distinguishes itself from traditional political parties by not distributing tickets based on money, influence, or family connections. Kejriwal reiterated that AAP is a party for the common people, emphasizing that tickets are awarded solely based on merit and public service. He assured that only candidates favored by the public would receive nominations.
Bhagwant Mann's Critique of BJP
Reiterating AAP's foundational principles, Kejriwal mentioned that the party was established to bring honest and capable individuals from ordinary backgrounds into politics, ensuring accountability and promoting citizen-centric governance. Earlier, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann launched a sharp critique against the BJP, labeling it as anti-Punjab and anti-Sikh. He demanded a public apology from the party for what he described as a 'shameful act' involving the misuse of Guru Tegh Bahadur's name in a video featuring AAP leader Atishi.
Allegations Against BJP
In a post on social media, Mann accused the BJP of fabricating statements attributed to Atishi that she never made, thereby disrespecting the revered Sikh Guru. He stated, 'The BJP has always been against Punjab and Sikhs. Today, their anti-Punjab and anti-Sikh face has emerged again, as they have linked words that she never spoke with Guru Sahib's name, disrespecting him. The BJP must apologize to the Sikh community and the people of Punjab for this disgraceful act.'
