Punjab CM Accuses Opponents of Spreading Fake Videos to Damage His Image
Allegations of Fake Videos and Political Manipulation
On Thursday, Punjab's Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann claimed that fake videos are being circulated to tarnish his reputation. He asserted that religious edicts or 'hukmanamas' are being exploited for political gain. During a press conference addressing the controversy surrounding a purported viral video, Mann stated that attempts are being made to instill hatred against him among the public, but he remains confident they will not succeed. The video allegedly depicts him consuming alcohol and pouring it over religious images.
Political Rivalry and Religious Defamation
Mann expressed that since his opponents cannot confront him politically, they are resorting to defaming him on religious grounds. He emphasized that he cannot challenge the Akal Takht and insisted that the individual in the video is not him. He accused all three political parties of uniting to defame him, claiming that such religious edicts are frequently issued with the intent to malign him. Despite these challenges, he highlighted that his government has accomplished significant work.
Questions Raised About SGPC's Actions
The Chief Minister also questioned the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) regarding boards allegedly placed outside gurdwaras against him. He asked why such boards were not erected during Sukhbir Badal's tenure. Mann pointed out that the SGPC president had previously referred to himself as a soldier of Sukhbir Badal.
Commitment to Akal Takht
Recalling his previous appearance before the Akal Takht, Mann stated that he would return if summoned again. He mentioned that he had visited Akal Takht Sahib before and would do so again if called upon. Mann also claimed that he had requested a live broadcast of the proceedings, which was not granted, and now clips are being released.
